Indian Government Notices Norms On Plastic Packing

 Aiming to deal with the menace of plastic waste thro' streamlining collection and recycling the Government has notified guidelines on plastic packing.  

Under these guidelines

• Producers importers and brand owners (PIBOs) can operate schemes such as deposit refund scheme or buy back.
• Levy of environment compensation (penalty) with respect to non fulfilment of extended producer's responsibility (EPR) target by PIBOs. The funds collected as penalty will be utilized for managing uncollected plastic waste in an environmentally sound manner until the end of its life cycle
• Promote development of new alternatives to plastics. The implementation of EPR will done thro' customized online platform. In order to ensure monitoring on fulfilment of EPR obligations, the guidelines have prescribed a system of verification and audit of enterprise
• It will also reward eco friendly conglomerates which understand the dire impact their products packing can have on the health of our planet and its habitants.
